The Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts is always a highlight of the season, and this latest example extends the great tradition. A major theme is climate change and environmental issues, but there is also lots of political commentary as well as questions about the role of art itself. There is so much here that will induce wonder, delight, head-shaking, indignation and a good laugh. Everyone will have their personal favourites and will enjoy marveling at some of the curators' selections and their prices. We particularly liked the rooms that had been hung by Grayson Perry RA. His characteristic taste for the provocative and the whimsical invariably charms. It is always difficult to single out individual pieces, but half the fun of attending this annual celebration of contemporary art is trying. On our own list, among so many others, are: "Another Crime-Free Day in the Busy Life of Batman" by Brian Mckenzie; "We All Go A Bit..." by Marie Pep; "Because You're Worth It ? II" (Slaves of Fashion Series) by The Singh Twins; and "Roadside Picnic" by Tomas Harker. We've probably missed your favourite, so be sure to go along with some friends and enjoy the challenge of making your own list. Aficionado or newcomer to the world of contemporary art, you really shouldn't miss this joyous opportunity to participate in the Royal Academy of Art's long-established rite of summer.
