From koalas to kangaroos, Australia is renowned for its unique and fascinating wildlife. Some of the most intriguing and wildest has been coming to London since 2011. Briefs has become a tradition on the metropolitan theatre scene. Its highly original entertainment runs the gamut from trapeze to striptease and covers everything in between. There is juggling, aerial work, gymnastics, mime, dance, drag and even a raffle. In the latest iteration the troupe are mainly background to the songs and song stylings of Sahara Beck and they are in the more traditional venue of Queen Elizabeth Hall. Sahara does a fine job of holding her own against the antics of the Briefs gang, and by turns, her song renditions are both touching and rousing. However, we still missed the old circus focused show. We loved the intimacy and easy audience interaction that worked so well in the tent locale. For us, the latest production needs a more radical redesign to work with the new format and more formal setting. Still, if you've never seen Briefs and are looking for a night of exceptional and outrageous fun, don't miss the vaudeville cabaret from these ditsy denizens from Down Under.
