Ivan Kincyl: In The Minute, Victoria & Albert Museum - FREE - ★★★★ - Until July 7, 2019
The photography of Ivan Kincyl (1953-2004) focuses on the theatre and evokes the mystery of the truth that lies behind the essential artificiality of the dramatic experience. His ethereal pictures grasp at timeless realities in the transient moment. There are 60 photos suggesting the second they were captured "in the minute" of the exhibition. The black and white works use their dramatic chiaroscuro to light the characters and sets evoking not only the play, but also the idea and theme that inform its creation. This is a beautiful exhibition, low-key and unpretentious, speaking to lovers of the theatre and those who appreciate the art of photography.
