Aspects of Love, Southwark Playhouse - ★★★★ - Until February 9, 2019
This sex-operetta is ideal for chamber production. One of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's best scores. Maybe a little long, but it has some excellent tunes. Performances were top grade. As Rose, the actress and object of almost everyone's desires, Kelly Price acted and sang superbly, bringing a terrific voice to the "11 o'clock" number and "Anything but Lonely." Truly the star of the show, she very convincingly conveyed the transformation of over twenty years from ingenue to glamorous star. Felix Mosse and Jerome Pradon, the rivals for her love, also sang and acted very convincingly, although Mosse's Alex remained a little too boyish to the end. The small ensemble shone brightly in the circus scene and were outstanding during the funeral capers. The minimalist set was very effective and with impressively accurate lighting over thirty locations were evoked. Direction by Jonathan O'Boyle was subtle, intelligent and Inventive. Overall a really excellent version of a much under-appreciated show.
